What Is AZS Ramming Mass

AZS ramming mass is made of fused zirconia corundum particles and a small amount of additives. It is the best monolithic refractory used in the sealing layer under the paving blocks of the tank bottom and cold and hot repair in the glass furnaces.

It is made by crushing the fused zirconia corundum brick with the jaw crusher and ball mill and formulating according to certain particle size distribution ratio. It is featured with easy use, curing at room temperature, high temperature strength, low thermal expansion and good corrosion resistance to glass liquid. 

 

Though the AZS ramming mass takes up a small proportion of the overall refractories used in the glass furnaces, the tank bottom, the area where it is used, is crucial and special as the condition is demanding there and it is difficult to be repaired. 

 

The main chemical composition consists of 48% Al2O3, 30% ZrO2 and 20% SiO2. Its crystal structure is composed of corundum, mullite, baddeleyite and glass phase. The maximum particle diameter of grain is 5mm. 

 

When using AZS ramming mass, open the bag to check if the coagulant agent is dampened or hardened, and then spread the coagulant agent uniformly into the bag; Mix certain amount of the mass according to on-site assumption. When it mixes well, add room temperature water by a ratio of 6-7%, or adjust the ratio according to local climatic condition and water content of the mixture. Blend it till there is no raw ramming mass left or till that it will break into pieces instantly when it falls to the ground after one unlooses his grip of the mass from the height of 0.33 meters. 

 

The construction site should be clean and without sundries. The leftover well-mixed mass should be covered with plastic sheet film or placed in shady and cool place. The mass that is not dry and hard can be used again; otherwise, it should be crushed and used together with other raw material or abandoned. Mix with water to make the material like slurry then press smooth by vibrating.

 

The service life of AZS ramming mass is mainly up to the sintering before the use and the sintering quality when first used. If the heating surface is integral and not separated from the bottom with no crack, then the service life can be improved.
